With his father, Haines was proprietor of Tom's Coffee House in Great Russell Street, Covent Garden. Catalogued since 1926 as the work of Charles Grignion the elder (1716-1810), an engraver, but this is presumably a confusion with the painter, Charles Grignion the younger. To judge by the costume this work may be dated c.1775-80.
